Space Observatory

Observing the final frontier.

Solar Instrument

Earth-Facing Sun
Latest NASA SDO AIA 304 Sun image
Earth Direction
Live-view target: NASA SDO solar imagery. The marker shows the Earth-facing side conceptually so visitors understand whether solar activity may matter to us.

Solar Observatory Viewer

Sun Filters + 24 Hour Timelapse
Solar observatory viewer
Earth-facing marker concept: this viewer is for understanding what is happening on the side of the Sun aimed toward Earth.

Sunspot Magnetic Polarity

Active Regions Facing Earth
Latest NASA SDO HMI magnetogram showing solar magnetic polarity
Magnetogram view: white and black regions mark opposite magnetic polarity in sunspot groups facing Earth.
What this shows This view maps the Sun’s magnetic field. Sunspots are often linked to intense magnetic regions, and complex mixed-polarity areas can be more flare-active.
Why it matters for Earth When active magnetic regions face Earth, flares or coronal mass ejections from those areas are more important to watch.
Polarity key
Positive polarity
Negative polarity
Future upgrade Later this can identify numbered active regions, flare probability, region complexity, and whether a region is rotating toward or away from Earth.

Last 24 Hours

Solar Wind Timeline
Recent movement near Earth

This panel is shaped for NOAA solar-wind history: speed, density, and magnetic field changes over the last 24 hours.

Earth Magnetic Field

Impact View

Future live animation: solar wind leaves the Sun, reaches Earth, compresses the magnetosphere, and raises aurora/storm levels. This is where the “when it hits Earth” explanation belongs.

Aurora

Forecast

Future NOAA aurora oval map and visibility forecast. Normal-person readout: where northern lights may be visible tonight.

Sky Above You

Location

Enter city, address, or coordinates later to see stars, planets, and constellations overhead — even during daylight.

Satellites

ISS / Passes

Future panel for ISS passes, visible satellites, and what is currently moving over your sky.

Mars Watch

Planet Data

Future Mars/planet section for rover imagery, mission status, and current observations from active missions.
